Do you sell food in a café, restaurant or other food-service outlet which sells food which have been prepared and pre-packed for consumers to select?
We can help.
Legislation covering food which is Pre-Packed for Direct Sale (PPDS), also known as Natasha’s Law, came into force in October 2021 - The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019 and applies to all food sold through food service outlets which has been pre-packed.
The intention of the law is to protect people with food allergies from accidental consumption of products that could be harmful to them.
All products that a food business produces and packs on the premises must be clearly labelled with a complete list of ingredients and the 14 most common allergens. This means that a consumer with a food allergy can quickly check whether the ingredients dangerous to them are present in any packaged food service product.
Never underestimate the potential consequences of failing to meet your obligations in this field. The financial penalties and reputational damage can be devastating to businesses, but that’s not all. Reckless behaviour and failure to take appropriate care could lead to legal charges up to and including corporate manslaughter.
The types of businesses covered by Natasha's Law include any outlets that sell packaged food on the premises pre-packed for ‘grab and go’.
These include:
